26. A Statement

From Digital English by Dr. Neil Harbert (Suggested Reading, Social Media Usage, Paper III – Basic Writing Skills)

There are multiple ways to resize texts to fit Twitter. Consider the following example.

Intended statement:

“I am not proud of what has happened. It could be avoided. The decision was made jointly by the seniority group and it was made in the light of the prevalent circumstances. The goal was to find a surer path towards success and the pressure might have had some effect on the decision makers. I will certainly not encourage any such activities during the rest of the meet. No, there will not be any change in my role as chief decision maker.”

This statement can be rendered suitable for Twitter in a variety of way. Some are shown below.

(by shortening the words and removing articles)

Nt prd. Cd b avd. Dcsn jntly by snrty gp undr prvlnt crcmstnc. Gl ws surr pth 2 scs n prsr prbly fctr. Nt ncrg mr drng rst. no chng i chf.

(by selecting certain words and removing others)

Not proud. Decision by seniority group. Under pressure for success. No more during rest of meet. I am still chief.

(by sticking to the true intention)

Shit. Got caught.
